Personal Encyclopaedia

Because of the stability of the EPOC and the small files sizes, it is practical to construct a personalized Encyclopaedia on the S5. PocketInfo (http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/pocketinfo/) is the place to go for all those bits and bobs and RMRzip is one of many possible integrating tool.

For example, to construct a chemical engineering enclyclopaedia, first, look at the PocketInfo site map below (as of 1999/11/09):-

Business Leisure Sport Travel Reference Sounds
Finance Films Football Traveling Language & Communication Real World, Effects, Music, Voice
Car-related Television & Radio Tennis International information The Physical World
Formal Television (Comedy) Cricket UK-Specific Personal & Spiritual
Doing Business Literature & Classical Arts Golf Europe-specific Graphics
Computing (Windows) Fitness & Recreation Motor Sports Rest of the world Mathematics & Statistics
Communications Lottery & Gambling Miscellaneous   Miscellaneous
Computing (Internet) Modern Music     Dates
Computing (Psion general) Food & Drink
  Miscellaneous

This huge collection (over 1000 files) of information spans many subjects. However, as chemical engineers we may be interested in the following S5 files:-

Name Description Page (hot-linked)
cashflow A 21kB spreadsheet which predicts cash flows from monthly receipts and disbursements. Business /finance
mbatools A 71kB database of useful business definitions, principles, tools and resources that may be encountered in MBA courses. Business /Doing Business
project A 44kB spreadsheet with simple Gantt chart project planning.
chemtec A 2.2MB database of engineering and material science definitions and information , including some element and compound properties. Reference /The Physical World
halflife A 10kB spreadsheet model of radioactive decay calculations.
energy A 7kB spreadsheet to calculate the energy of reaction of organic compounds from molecular group contributions.
elements An 8kB database of the element table and their basic properties.
regress A 38kB spreadsheet linear regression analysis that curve fits 7 different equations to up to 16 data pairs. Reference /Mathematics & Statistics
engmaths An 85kB database of some engineering and mathematics definitions, rules and laws, formula and methods.

Secondly, download the above files and those on my web page that you fancy. Thirdly, change the file names to take advantage of RMRzip's ability to located files by their first letter. Finally, zip these files into a single zip file and you have your personalized chemical Encyclopaedia. I would recommend RMRzip to do the job, though there are other methods.

NB. Perhaps later, RMR Software might take advantage of the comment line and use it for keyword searches!
