Chembase - The Chemical Database

Download Chembase.zip (338 kB)- Chemical property DATA file . ChemBase is a Psion EPOC DATA file with the properties of over 100 commonly-used chemicals. It is designed to be used with the chemical properties spreadsheets in ChemProp. There is no direct and automatic link between the spreadsheets and the property database, and therefore the data have to be transferred via "copy and paste" methods.

Features

Chembase is a flat file with over 100 records (chemicals) contains a subset of information from Yaw's handbook. The general data format is:-

equation # + 5 coefficients + minimum temperature + maximum temperature.

The text fields are:-

	Name: Is the common name and simple text formula.
	CAS: Is the CAS identity number, 8 digits in 8 text spaces.
	MolWt: Is the molecular weight.
	TfTb: Has the freezing and boiling points.
	Crit props: Has critical temperature, pressure, volume, compressibility, and acentric factor
	Gas Cp: Has ideal gas heat capacity data in general data format.
	Liq Cp: 8 Liquid heat capacity data in general data format.
	Heat vap: Has heat of vaporization data in general data format.
	Liq dens: Has liquid density data in general data format.
	Surf ten: Has surface tension data in general data format.
	RIdpRG: Has Refractive index temperature & value, dipole moment & the radius of gyration.
	Hform: The heat formation data in general data format.
	Genergy: The Gibbs free energy data in general data format.
	Gas vis: Has Gas viscosity data in general data format.
	Gas cond: Has gas thermal conductivity data in general data format
	Liq cond: Has Liquid thermal conductivity data in general data format.
	Comment: Has molecular structure graphics, synonyms, demand, prices, uses, characteristics and corrosion resistance tables.

Usage

When opened up, Chembase should look like:-

Components can be searched for by name by simply typing it in. Most synonyms are included.

For example, you might want to know the characteristics and usage of acetic acid. After setting the visible field to "Name:" and "Comment:", search for "acetic"...
ChemBase example

You will find synonyms, estimates of demand, prices and uses. There will also be characteristics of the substance at room temperature and pressure and a corrosion resistance table.
